In the city of St. Louis, on November 19, 2010, the life of David Terrell Davis, a 27-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short. He was fatally shot in the head and torso in an alley, succumbing to his injuries at the scene. His death was an unsolved crime that left behind a grieving family, including his three children.
The sorrow surrounding Davis's death was violently compounded eleven days later at his funeral service. As mourners gathered to pay their respects at the Reliable Funeral Home, a dispute that began inside the mortuary spilled out into the street, erupting in gunfire. The chaos that ensued saw people inside the chapel diving for cover as bullets struck the building.
When the shooting ceased, two men, identified as 31-year-olds Jason Finney and Trevlan Glass, lay dead. A third man, aged 35, was critically wounded with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities at the time were uncertain whether the three men were victims or also participants in the exchange of gunfire.
In the immediate aftermath, police investigators suggested the shooting at the funeral may have been gang-related and possibly connected to the still-unsolved murder of David Davis.
