Devin DeJe'an Newson, a 20-year-old male from Longview, Texas, tragically passed away on May 23, 2016. Devin was born on April 14, 1996, in Marshall, Texas, and was known to be a kind and caring individual who left behind a grieving family and friends.
The circumstances surrounding Devin's death were the result of an aggravated robbery gone wrong. Devin was shot during a late-night drug deal outside a Food Fast convenience store in the 3300 block of South Eastman Road.
He had arranged to meet Kambresha Williams, Kentrell Smith, and Brenndrick Lilly, who intended to steal drugs and money from him. During the encounter, a struggle ensued, and Devin was shot as he attempted to drive away, ultimately crashing into a nearby building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Kambresha Williams, 24, pleaded guilty to murder in connection with Devin's death and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Brenndrick Lilly, 23, was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the murder and an additional 20 years for aggravated robbery. Kentrell Smith, 23, received a 10-year deferred adjudication after pleading guilty to aggravated robbery.
