Rodolfo Mendiola IV, a 22-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically murdered on July 3, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas. Known affectionately as Rudy, he was a computer engineering student at the University of Texas at San Antonio . Rudy was found dead at his father's house on Trawalter Road, not far from where his father's truck was abandoned on the railroad tracks along Luckey Road.
He had been shot in the head and beaten.
The investigation into Rudy's murder revealed that he had spent time with Jonathan Moreno, a 20-year-old male, and a woman the night before his death. Moreno later told the woman that Rudy's house looked like a good one to rob. Investigators found several items stolen from Rudy's home, including electronics, jewelry, and guns, which Moreno intended to pawn. Moreno was arrested in July 2016 and later pleaded guilty to the murder of Rodolfo Mendiola IV. He received a life sentence for his crime.
Rudy's family described him as a compassionate and giving person who stood up for others who were bullied and overlooked. His death left his family and friends devastated, and they continue to seek answers and justice for his untimely demise. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office received several leads from the public, which helped in the investigation. However, the motive behind the murder remains unclear.
