Christian Jorjorian, a 20-year-old man from El Paso, Texas, was tragically shot and killed on August 15, 2016. The incident occurred in the 1000 block of Calle Parque Drive in West El Paso. Jorjorian was involved in a drug deal with two teenagers, Marcelo Mailland, 18, and Marco Antonio Nava, 17. During the transaction, a fight broke out, and Jorjorian was shot.
He was found outside his vehicle, near community mailboxes, and later died at the scene.
Following the incident, both Mailland and Nava were arrested and charged with capital murder. Nava was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to capital murder in December 2017. Mailland faced a trial and was convicted of murder, receiving a 45-year prison sentence in January 2019. The jury acquitted him of capital murder, which could have resulted in a life sentence.
The case drew significant attention in the El Paso community, with many expressing grief and outrage over the loss of a young man described as intelligent, happy, and full of life. Jorjorian's stepfather, David Barber, publicly thanked the El Paso Police Department for their efforts in apprehending the suspects and praised those who tried to save his stepson.
The tragic death of Christian Jorjorian serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with drug-related activities and the devastating impact such incidents can have on families and communities.
