Enrique Herrera, a 45-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically killed on November 9, 2017, in El Paso, Texas. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning at his home on Ava Leigh Avenue in Far East El Paso. According to reports, Enrique Herrera was shot and killed by Jose Manuel Varela, a 25-year-old male, who was in a relationship with Herrera's daughter, Stephanie Herrera.
The confrontation began the previous evening at a local establishment and escalated when Varela drove to the Herrera residence around 4 a.m. on November 9.
Upon arriving at the Herrera home, Varela shot Enrique Herrera when he answered the door. Varela then entered the house and shot Stephanie Herrera, a 25-year-old Hispanic female, who was inside. Despite efforts by other family members present to aid Stephanie, Varela shot her a second time, resulting in her death. After the shootings, Varela fled the scene in his red Dodge truck and subsequently shot himself in the head before crashing into a rock wall on Rich Beem Boulevard, approximately four miles from the Herrera residence.
The investigation into the murders revealed that the motive behind the killings was related to dating violence. Varela and Stephanie Herrera had been in a relationship for about seven years, and the couple had experienced typical relationship issues. However, the situation took a tragic turn when Varela confronted Stephanie on the night of November 8, leading to the fatal events of the following morning.
The El Paso Police Department conducted a thorough investigation into the incident, confirming that Varela was the sole perpetrator of the murders. No additional arrests or suspects were reported in connection with the case.
