Iris Valentina Teruel-Pineda, a 22-year-old woman of Honduran ethnicity, was tragically shot and killed on September 7, 2016, in Houston, Texas. She was in the driveway of her southwest Houston home, preparing to leave for work with a co-worker, when a male suspect approached her vehicle from behind. The suspect, described as wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, walked up to the driver's side window and shot Teruel-Pineda multiple times. Her co-worker was unharmed.
