Ortega, who was gardening at the time of his death, was confronted by three suspects who intended to rob him. During the robbery, one of the suspects shot Ortega, leading to his untimely death. Ortega's wife, who was deeply affected by the incident, mentioned that her husband had no enemies and was a peaceful man. He left behind two children, and his family continues to mourn his loss.
