She was fatally shot by her husband, Cruz Orlando Piñon, during a domestic disturbance call. During the altercation, Piñon also shot and killed his 16-year-old stepdaughter, Ashley Segura Garcia, before turning the gun on himself.

The argument escalated when the daughter refused to hand over her cell phone to Piñon, who wanted to check her activities.
