Rose Maria Hunt, a 21-year-old woman from Baytown, Texas, was tragically murdered on February 28, 2017. She was eight and a half months pregnant at the time of her death. Hunt's body was discovered on Tri-City Road in Baytown, having been shot in the back of the head. The investigation revealed that Hunt had been lured into a date with David Joseph Galindo, who claimed they were reconnecting as high school friends.
However, it was later discovered that Galindo had been paid $1,500 by Derrick Metcalf, believed to be the father of Hunt's unborn child, to carry out the murder.
Galindo was arrested shortly after Hunt's body was found, and his charges were later upgraded to capital murder. Further investigation led to the arrest of Metcalf and his girlfriend, Daizy Costello, who were both charged with capital murder for their roles in the murder-for-hire plot. Metcalf and Costello confessed to their involvement, and all three suspects were held in Harris County Jail.
The motive behind the murder was linked to Hunt's pregnancy, as Metcalf and Costello allegedly wanted to prevent her from giving birth. Hunt's Facebook page showed her excitement about becoming a mother, with recent sonogram pictures posted just days before her death. The tragic case highlighted the lengths to which individuals would go to avoid responsibility and the devastating impact on the victim and her family.
The investigation and subsequent arrests brought some measure of justice for Rose Maria Hunt and her unborn child, but the loss remains a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the consequences of such heinous acts.
