In the spring of 2012, tragedy befell a Kansas City, Missouri resident, forever altering the lives of his loved ones. Terrence E. Richardson, a 47-year-old Black male, was working his shift as a taxi driver on Saturday, May 12, 2012, unaware of the violence that would soon end his life. His day, which had likely been filled with the routine of fares and navigating the city streets, came to a sudden and brutal halt.
That evening, Richardson was dispatched to pick up a passenger at 4445 Spruce Avenue. While patiently waiting in his taxi, the night was shattered by the sound of gunfire. An unknown Black male suspect opened fire on his vehicle, fatally wounding Richardson. The motive for this senseless act of violence remains unclear, leaving a void of unanswered questions for his family and the community.
In the wake of the shooting, the Kansas City Missouri Police Department opened a homicide investigation, assigning it case number 12-32572. Despite their efforts, the case has grown cold over the years, and it is now listed among the city's unsolved homicides. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified beyond the initial description of a Black male. The search for justice for Terrence E. Richardson continues, his memory kept alive by those who knew him and the investigators who have not given up on solving his case.
