Steven Coleman, a 32-year-old African American man, was fatally shot in the head by his girlfriend, Cierra Sutton, while he was sleeping on the night of August 16, 2017, in Baytown, Texas. The couple had gotten into an argument earlier that day, and Sutton later admitted to shooting Coleman. Because his body was too heavy to carry, Sutton dismembered his body with a machete and disposed of the pieces in various dumpsters around her apartment complex.
