Richard Cordona Rodriguez, a 51-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on November 5, 2017, in Sutherland Springs, Texas. He was one of the victims of the horrific church shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs. Richard died alongside his wife, Therese JoAnn Sagan Rodriguez, making their deaths even more heart-wrenching.
The shooter, identified as Devin Patrick Kelley, carried out the attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, including Richard and
his wife. Kelley had a history of domestic violence and had been court-martialed by the U.S. Air Force for assaulting his wife and fracturing his stepson's skull. Despite this, his criminal history was not entered into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System , which allowed him to purchase firearms.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Kelley fled the scene but was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
