Larry Anthony Quinn Thomas, a 17-year-old male of unspecified ethnicity from Copperas Cove, Texas, tragically died on November 9, 2017, from a single gunshot wound to the head. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. outside his home on Bonnie Lane. Thomas was initially taken to Darnall Army Community Hospital and later transferred to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, where he was pronounced dead the following day.
Three suspects were arrested in connection with Thomas's death.
Jamiroquai Michael Onyemaechi Rodriguez Kiaunte Ejiawoko, 17, and Joshua David Vega, 23, both residents of Copperas Cove, were taken into custody on November 15, 2017. Both were charged with murder and received $500,000 surety bonds. A third suspect, Andrew Sommervold, 21, also from Copperas Cove, was identified as a person of interest. Sommervold was arrested in California on December 3, 2017, and later extradited back to Texas to face charges. He was described as Asian or Pacific Islander, approximately 5-foot-9, weighing around 245 pounds, with long curly black hair.
Additionally, a female juvenile was sought in connection with the incident, but her identity was not released. The suspects allegedly met with Thomas earlier in the day at a local pizzeria, where plans were made for Thomas to obtain marijuana. The fatal shooting reportedly occurred as a result of an altercation between the suspects and the victim.
The case drew significant attention from local law enforcement and the community, highlighting the tragic consequences of violent altercations and the importance of addressing youth violence.
