On August 9, 2023, at approximately 2:03 a.m., Copperas Cove Police responded to a residence in the 700 block of South Main Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered 37-year-old Richard Jerome Powers unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene by Coryell County Justice of the Peace John Guinn.
Richard Powers was a resident of Copperas Cove, Texas, and was employed with Navigator Transportation in Temple, Texas. He was also a dedicated member and vice president of the Nuboyz With Attitude Biker Club. He is survived by his sister, Volanda Powers of Gulfport, Mississippi; his children, Kelendria Powers, Collins, Silas Pope, Gulfport, Jamarra Powers, and Tina Hamilton of Killeen, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and numerous friends.
Following the incident, the Copperas Cove Police Department initiated a homicide investigation. Authorities emphasized that the incident was isolated and assured the public that there was no ongoing threat. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with Richard Powers' death.
The community has been left in shock and mourning over the loss of Richard Powers, who was known for his active involvement in local organizations and his dedication to his family.
