On January 17, 2018, Jose Manuel Cintron, a 54-year-old man from San Antonio, Texas, was tragically killed during a botched robbery. Cintron, who was Hispanic, was shot and killed at his home in the 24000 block of Invitation Oak by Joseph Edward Hernandez, a 19-year-old. The incident occurred when Hernandez, along with Luis Oscar Paz, 19, and Jakob Harris, 18, attempted to rob Cintron of marijuana and money.
The three suspects had planned the robbery, intending to steal at least three
ounces of marijuana. However, the situation escalated when Cintron resisted, leading Hernandez to shoot him. Matthew Ybarra, a 22-year-old who was present during the incident, was also wounded. Hernandez handed the gun to Harris, who was later arrested by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in West Texas. Paz was arrested in Bexar County.
Hernandez, Paz, and Harris were all charged with capital murder. Hernandez and Paz remained in the Bexar County Jail, while Harris was apprehended in West Texas. The case drew significant attention due to the young age of the suspects and the violent nature of the crime.
