On July 27, 2018, Roel Mireles, a 41-year-old man from Robstown, Texas, was tragically killed in a shooting incident at his home. The incident was part of a larger crime spree that also resulted in the deaths of Thelma Montalvo, 60, and Isaiah Starry, 13, at the Retama Manor Nursing Center, and Ernest Starry, 85, at his residence. The suspect, Richard Starry, 60, is believed to have shot his father Ernest Starry and stepmother Thelma Montalvo before heading to Mireles' home and killing him and his son Isaiah. Richard Starry then took his own life.
The Robstown Police Department, Nueces County Sheriff's Office, and the Texas Rangers conducted an investigation into the shootings. Richard Starry had a prior arrest in February 2017 for an outstanding warrant out of Bee County for theft of property. Public records indicated that Richard and Ernest Starry co-owned property along State Highway 44 in the Robstown area, and Richard Starry's last known address was listed as the residence where Roel Mireles and Isaiah Starry were found dead.
