Johnny Paramo Torres, a 25-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on August 4, 2018, in Houston, Texas. He was an innocent victim of gang violence, specifically targeted by members of the notorious MS-13 gang. Torres was visiting Houston when he got into a verbal altercation with three Hispanic men inside the La Union Restaurant. The dispute escalated, and as Torres exited the restaurant, he was shot in the face by one of the men.
The investigation into Torres' murder led to
the arrest of several suspects. Elida Lucia Jovel Medrano, a 17-year-old El Salvadoran native, was charged with first-degree murder for her involvement as the getaway driver. She admitted to driving the car used by the shooters and was arrested after attempting to flee the scene. Police continued to search for the other individuals involved in the shooting, including the gunman and two other accomplices.
In a broader crackdown on MS-13 activity in Houston, 11 gang members were charged in connection with five murders, including Torres' death. The arrests were part of a multi-agency operation targeting the violent gang. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo described the suspects as "the worst of the worst," highlighting the brutality and transnational reach of MS-13.
