Janice Crawford, a 34-year-old woman from San Antonio, Texas, tragically lost her life on October 11, 2018. She was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting incident while inside her home on the Northeast Side of San Antonio. The incident occurred when Crawford was in a bedroom, and bullets from the drive-by shooting penetrated the home, striking her in the upper torso.
Despite efforts to save her, Crawford succumbed to her injuries at the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
The San Antonio Police Department identified 25-year-old Tyrend White as the suspect in Crawford's death. According to police reports, White turned himself in after seeing his face on television and was subsequently arrested on a murder charge. White allegedly opened fire on two boys sitting outside Crawford's home, and while the boys escaped injury, Crawford was tragically hit by the bullets. White was taken into custody without incident and faced legal proceedings for his involvement in the shooting.
The community and Crawford's family were deeply affected by her death. Crawford was described as a kind and caring mother who would do anything for her children. Her cousin-in-law, Takia Henderson, expressed her grief and disbelief over the senseless act, emphasizing that Crawford did not deserve to die and that her children were left without their loving mother. Henderson also mentioned that Crawford was preparing for a job interview on the day of the shooting and had stayed behind while Henderson and her children went out.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Henderson and others in the community organized a balloon release to honor Crawford's memory and established a fund to support her children. The San Antonio Police Department continued their investigation to ensure justice for Crawford and her family.
The loss of Janice Crawford serves as a stark reminder of the impact of violence on families and communities. Her memory lives on through the love and support of those who knew her and the efforts to seek justice for her untimely death.
