Alvaro Carrillo Sotelo, a 46-year-old man from Seguin, Texas, tragically lost his life on December 14, 2018. He was riding his bicycle in the 600 block of Dolle Avenue when he was shot in the hand and abdomen by an unknown assailant. Sotelo was airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio, where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident shocked the local community, as Sotelo was known for his helpful nature and willingness to assist neighbors with various tasks.
Following Sotelo's death,
Seguin police identified Juan Osorio, a 54-year-old man, as the primary suspect. Osorio allegedly fled to Mexico shortly after the shooting to evade arrest. Despite an arrest warrant being issued for Osorio on December 29, 2018, the case went cold as authorities struggled to locate him. In December 2021, the investigation was reopened, and the public was asked for help in finding Osorio. Eventually, Mexican law enforcement apprehended Osorio and handed him over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection in March 2022. He was then transported back to Guadalupe County, where he faced charges for first-degree murder.
The case against Osorio was presented to the Guadalupe County Attorney's Office, and he was booked on a $1,000,000 bond. The community continues to mourn the loss of Alvaro Carrillo Sotelo, remembering him as a kind and generous individual who always went out of his way to help others.
