On June 16, 2023, at approximately 12:05 p.m., Seguin Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1600 block of North Austin Street in Seguin, Texas. Upon arrival, they discovered 49-year-old Juan Pablo "Porky" Juarez Jr. with a fatal gunshot wound. Justice of the Peace Darrel Hunter pronounced Juarez deceased at the scene.
Juarez, a lifelong Seguin resident, was known for his work in construction alongside his father at J.J. Concrete Construction.
His unexpected death left the community in mourning, with many recalling his contributions and presence in the area.
In the days following the incident, the Seguin Police Department launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for Juarez's death. On June 26, 2023, authorities arrested 18-year-old Steven Herrera in connection with the shooting. Herrera was initially taken into custody on two unrelated deadly conduct warrants. While detained, he was formally charged with the murder of Juarez. At the time of reporting, Herrera was held in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
