Eleticia Rios Cano Martinez, a 52-year-old Hispanic woman, was tragically shot and killed in the driveway of her home in East Houston on February 27, 2019. She had just returned from visiting family members and was unlocking her gate when the shooter confronted her and opened fire, shooting her three times. Her husband, Felipe, and their grandchildren were inside the home at the time and heard the gunshots but were unable to save her.
The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and
the suspect fled the scene in a small car seen parked nearby. Surveillance video from a business next door is being reviewed by police in hopes of identifying the shooter. The family has started a GoFundMe campaign to cover expenses and is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to the arrest of the killer.
Eleticia was a beloved volunteer teacher's aide at Raul Martinez Elementary School, where she had worked for 22 years. She was well-loved by students, staff, and the community, and her death has left a significant void. The school district has provided grief counselors to support students and staff during this difficult time.
Despite the outpouring of support and the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved. The family continues to seek justice for Eleticia and hopes that someone will come forward with information that can help bring her killer to justice.
