The incident occurred in the 9800 block of Glengreen Drive in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas. According to reports, Brandon Small was one of two individuals shot during the incident. The other victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The Dallas Police Department responded to the shooting call at around 9:10 a.m.

The investigation into Brandon Small's death led to the arrest of 18-year-old Olajuwon Brown. Video evidence collected by the police showed Brown fleeing the scene while holding a pistol. After being identified, Brown voluntarily interviewed with the police, waived his Miranda rights, and provided a voluntary statement. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of Brandon Small. Brown's bond was set at $100,000.
