Leroy Hawkins III, a 17-year-old recent graduate of DeSoto High School, was tragically shot and killed on June 4, 2019, in downtown Dallas, Texas. The incident occurred just after midnight in the 400 block of North Akard Street near Federal Street. Hawkins was found in the passenger seat of a red 2007 Pontiac with multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The suspect in the case, 18-year-old Kenaijae Keon Anderson, was arrested shortly after the shooting. Anderson, also a recent graduate of DeSoto High School, admitted to the shooting during questioning by police. He was charged with murder and held in Dallas County jail on a $200,000 bond.
The shooting was reportedly the result of an altercation that began when Anderson approached the car and began arguing with the occupants. The driver of the car managed to escape, but Hawkins was not as fortunate.
