On January 28, 2014, 17-year-old Makay Nelson was found shot to death in an alley in the 4900 block of Ashby, St. Louis, Missouri. Responding officers discovered Makay after receiving a report of a person lying in the alley. Despite immediate response from emergency personnel, Makay was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was part of a wave of violence that plagued the St. Louis area, especially affecting young individuals.
