In a tragic turn of events on January 6, 2024, 27-year-old Michael Rice lost his life in his home on the 5500 block of Page Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. Responding to a call shortly before 2 p.m., police discovered Rice on a sidewalk near his residence with a fatal gunshot wound to his stomach. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation revealed a harrowing story of a robbery that escalated into a deadly exchange of gunfire.
A witness who was present in Rice's home at the time of the incident told authorities that a man, later identified as 27-year-old Lavell Nunley, brandished two firearms and demanded their belongings. After the witness surrendered their phone, cash, and ID, they managed to grab a nearby gun and secure themselves in a bathroom.
According to the witness's account, Nunley then fired multiple shots through the bathroom door. The witness returned fire before escaping the harrowing ordeal by jumping from a second-story window. Evidence found at the scene, including the witness's personal items, corroborated their statement. Additionally, security footage from the area captured a man matching Nunley's description fleeing the location.
Following the investigation, Lavell Nunley was arrested and is now facing several serious charges, including second-degree murder and robbery in connection with the death of Michael Rice.
