On June 1, 2014, authorities in St. Louis, Missouri, began an investigation into the death of Laquwan J. A. Lewis, a 23-year-old African-American male also known by the nickname 'Buddah.' At approximately 12:18 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the Kingsway West neighborhood following reports of a deceased individual. Upon arriving at the scene, located in the rear yard of a residence at 5109 Northland Avenue, they discovered Lewis lying lifeless on the ground.
