On the night of January 31, 2024, a violent incident unfolded in the Gravois Park neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of Dwayne Gibbs, a Black 18-year-old male. The shooting occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. inside a residence located in the 3400 block of California Avenue, an area situated between Cherokee and Potomac streets. First responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire, where they discovered the young man unconscious and not breathing,
suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was urgently transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. Evidence collected at the scene and interviews with individuals present helped piece together the events leading up to the violence.
