On the evening of October 30, 2019, Taylor was accidentally shot in the abdomen with an AK-47 at the White Oak
Apartments in Conroe. According to the Conroe Police Department, Taylor and several others, including Deondre Deray Johnson, were smoking marijuana and playing with the loaded firearm, unaware that it was loaded. Despite paramedics' efforts to perform CPR, Taylor tragically died at the scene.
Deondre Deray Johnson, a 23-year-old resident of Conroe, was charged with second-degree felony manslaughter in connection with Taylor's death. Johnson pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to five years in prison on June 2, 2022. The court determined that the shooting was accidental, and neither Johnson nor Taylor knew the firearm was loaded at the time.
