Brandon Swinney, a 42-year-old man from Odessa, Texas, was tragically killed on November 21, 2019. He was born on April 8, 1977, and was well-known in his community as a loving husband, father, and avid sports enthusiast. Brandon was involved in various sports from a young age, including rodeo, baseball, and football. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1995 and continued to pursue his passion for baseball at several institutions, including Odessa College, Hardin-Simmons University, and the
University of South Carolina Aiken.
Brandon's death occurred outside his home when he returned from baseball practice with his young son. As he stepped out of his truck, an unknown assailant, who had been waiting in the shadows, shot him. The incident was captured on surveillance footage, but the case went cold for several years. Brandon's family, including his wife Samantha and their children, Kai and Sage, were left devastated and seeking answers.
In May 2024, the Odessa Police Department announced a breakthrough in the case. Advances in forensic science and analytic technology helped identify Roman Aguilar Alvarado, a 55-year-old man, as the prime suspect. Alvarado was already incarcerated in the Federal Correctional Institution Cumberland in Maryland on unrelated charges. According to the arrest affidavit, Alvarado had confronted Brandon about an alleged affair and had been waiting outside his home for over an hour before committing the murder.
The Odessa Police Department secured a warrant for Alvarado's arrest, bringing a sense of closure to Brandon's family after years of uncertainty. Although the family continues to grieve, they find some solace in knowing that justice is being pursued. Brandon Swinney's legacy lives on through his family and the memories of those who knew him.
