On January 22, 2020, 15-year-old Jesus Estrada, a sophomore at Socorro High School and a former member of the El Paso 49ers Youth Football team, was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting in the 11000 block of Villa Del Mar in Socorro, Texas. Estrada was found dead at the scene by law enforcement who responded to a shots-fired call around 9:30 p.m.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation into the incident.
Two days later, on January 24, 2020, a 16-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with Estrada's murder. The suspect, whose identity was not immediately released due to his age, was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office and referred to the Juvenile Probation Department. The investigation continued, and on February 25, 2020, a second teenager, aged 15, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
The case drew significant attention from the community, with many expressing their grief and support for Estrada's family. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Socorro police urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
