Carlos Chavez, a 49-year-old man from San Antonio, Texas, was fatally shot outside his West Side home on April 21, 2020. He was found wounded on the sidewalk near the front gate of his home in the 300 block of Aldama. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries early the next morning.
The investigation into his death revealed that a small silver car pulled up next to Chavez just before he was shot multiple times by a passenger inside the vehicle.
Initially, police did not have a clear motive for the shooting. However, further investigation traced Chavez's cellphone records, which showed communication with his stepdaughter, Julie Ann Banda, prior to his death.
On April 3, 2022, nearly two years after the incident, Julie Ann Banda, aged 28, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with her stepfather's death. According to the arrest affidavit, Banda's cellphone records placed her at the crime scene at the time of the shooting. The owner of the silver car used in the shooting confirmed that she had loaned her vehicle to Banda and another man on the day of the incident.
Banda is currently being held in the Bexar County Jail with a bond set at $150,000. The motive for the shooting has not been publicly disclosed, but the evidence suggests that Banda was involved in the crime.
This tragic event has led to ongoing legal proceedings as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Carlos Chavez's death and hold those responsible accountable.
