On the afternoon of November 11, 2014, a violent incident unfolded in the 4800 block of LeDuc Street near Marcus Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. Jermaine A. Gross, a 31-year-old Black male, was seated inside a parked vehicle along with two acquaintances. It was Veterans Day, and the group was gathered in the car shortly before 4:00 p.m. when an unknown individual approached the vehicle. Without warning, the assailant opened fire on the occupants, targeting the car before quickly fleeing the scene on foot.
Gross sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the ambush, specifically to his upper torso and arms. Following the shooting, he was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The other individuals present in the vehicle at the time of the attack were witnesses to the sudden violence that claimed Gross's life.
Detectives from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene to investigate the homicide. They determined that the shooter had approached the parked car, fired the fatal rounds, and then ran away, leaving few clues behind. At the time of the initial investigation, authorities had not identified a suspect, and no descriptions of the gunman were immediately available to the public. There were no reports of immediate arrests following the shooting, and the case was left in the hands of homicide investigators seeking leads to identify the person responsible for the attack.
