In the early morning hours of December 28, 2014, Nicholas R. Preuitt, a 27-year-old man from Kearney, Missouri, was fatally shot in a parking garage in the Power and Light District of Kansas City. The incident occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. in the underground structure located at 151 E. 13th St.
According to witnesses, Preuitt had been involved in an argument with another man just before the shooting. That man, who was described as having long braids, fled the scene in a small- to medium-sized black or dark-colored sport utility vehicle. The direction in which the suspect fled is unknown. When police officers responded to reports of the shooting, they discovered Preuitt's body in the garage. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement and Crime Stoppers sought assistance from the public to identify the person or persons responsible for Preuitt's death. A reward was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest in the case. The total possible reward for information was eventually increased to $12,000. Despite these efforts, the homicide case remains open, and it is unclear if any suspects have ever been formally identified or taken into custody.
