On September 14, 2020, 28-year-old Jose Montes, a Hispanic male, was tragically killed while working as an armored security guard in Dallas, Texas. Montes was servicing an ATM at a neighborhood credit union in West Oak Cliff when he was approached by an unknown man wielding a rifle. The assailant, who was wearing a black jacket with the word "police" written on the back, demanded property from Montes.
Despite complying with the demands, Montes was shot and later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The investigation revealed that the crime was premeditated, with surveillance footage showing the suspects' vehicle arriving at the scene 36 minutes before Montes' armored van. Witnesses reported that a woman was driving the getaway car, while a man, who was the shooter, exited the vehicle and committed the crime. The suspects fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Passat.
Despite extensive efforts by the Dallas Police Department, no arrests have been made in connection with Montes' murder. The case remains open, and the police have continued to seek information from the public. An additional reward of $50,000 has been authorized for information leading to an arrest and indictment. Montes' family has been vocal in their plea for justice, holding candlelight vigils and urging anyone with information to come forward.
Montes was known for his dedication to his job and his aspirations of opening his own gym and becoming a police officer.
