Frederick Fritz Buhler, a 49-year-old male of unspecified ethnicity, tragically lost his life on September 16, 2020, in San Antonio, Texas. The incident occurred at the Pecan Valley Golf Club Apartments on the Southeast Side of the city. Buhler was found dead after a shooting spree that also injured another man who was shot by a possible stray bullet while asleep in his apartment.
The suspected gunman, identified as 20-year-old Jiovanni Benjamin, was arrested at the scene.
Benjamin was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Witnesses reported that Buhler was peeking around the side of the apartment building after hearing an argument when he was fatally shot. The police were unsure if this was a targeted attack or a random shooting, and they confirmed that they believe there are more than one suspect involved in the shooting.
The San Antonio Police Department and the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office were involved in the investigation. The case drew attention to the issue of negligent security at the apartment complex, raising questions about whether better security measures could have prevented the tragedy.
The investigation continued as authorities worked to determine the full extent of the incident and identify any additional suspects involved. The community was left mourning the loss of Buhler and grappling with the implications of the violent event.
