Edgar Emiliano Rojas was a 14-year-old Hispanic boy from San Antonio, Texas. In the early hours of Saturday, July 23, 2022, he was with his cousin, Edgar Menchaca, who was also a teenager. The two boys were inside a parked vehicle in the 1800 block of Schley Avenue, on the city's southeast side.
Around 2:30 a.m., one of the teens placed a desperate call to 911, reporting that he had been shot in the neck.
When San Antonio police officers arrived at the scene, they found both boys inside the car with critical gunshot wounds. First responders performed life-saving measures on them, but their injuries were too severe.
Edgar Rojas had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Edgar Menchaca had been shot in the neck and chest; he was rushed by ambulance to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed the identities and causes of death for both victims.
San Antonio police began investigating the double homicide. Initially, it was unclear whether the shooter had been inside or outside the vehicle with the boys, and authorities had not yet identified a suspect. However, the investigation progressed, leading to a significant development in the case.
Authorities arrested Joshua Reyes and charged him with capital murder in connection with the shooting deaths of both Edgar Emiliano Rojas and Edgar Menchaca. As of the latest available information, the case against Reyes is in litigation.
