Dominic Joseph Sumicek, an 11-year-old boy from Houston, Texas, tragically lost his life on October 26, 2020. Dominic was the stepson of Menuell Solomon, a Houston rapper known as "Montana22". According to reports, Dominic was killed while sitting in the passenger seat of Solomon's car as they arrived home. Solomon, who was shielding Dominic from gunfire, also lost his life in the attack.
The investigation revealed that Desmond Hawkins, a 23-year-old gang member, was responsible for the
murders. At the time of the killings, Hawkins was out on bond for a previous capital murder charge from 2016. Surveillance footage and GPS monitoring records showed that Hawkins had been waiting for Solomon and Dominic to arrive home, and he ambushed them by cutting a hole in a chain-link fence. Hawkins shot Dominic twice and Solomon four times, killing them both.
In 2021, a second suspect, Dewayne Batiste, was also arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. However, his exact role in the crime remains unclear. Hawkins was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in September 2023. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and authorities have not provided any specific reasons why Hawkins targeted Solomon.
The tragic loss of Dominic and Solomon has deeply affected their family and community. Dominic's mother, Krissi Garcia, expressed her grief and disbelief over the senseless violence that took her son's life. The case has drawn attention to issues of gun violence and the need for stronger measures to protect innocent lives.
The memory of Dominic Joseph Sumicek lives on through the love and sorrow of those who knew him. His short life was filled with joy and sunshine, and his family continues to cherish the memories they shared with him.
