On November 1, 2020, 38-year-old Jose Sabino Mares Romero was tragically killed in Grand Prairie, Texas. The incident occurred around 1:50 a.m. in the 2300 block of West Jefferson Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Romero suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The Grand Prairie Police Department arrested 55-year-old William Smith of Fort Worth near the scene. Smith was charged with murder
