On the evening of November 6, 2020, in Houston, Texas, 20-year-old Bryan Smith was found deceased under circumstances that prompted an immediate investigation by local authorities. Sheriff's Office identified 17-year-old Bryan Smith Jr., also an African American male, as a suspect in the case. Smith Jr., a student at Porter High School, was known to the victim, and the two were considered friends. Authorities executed a search warrant at a residence on Knights Tower Drive in Kingwood, where Smith Jr. was apprehended without incident. He was subsequently charged with capital murder in connection with Bryan Smith's death.
