Angel Jerry Yanez, a 14-year-old Hispanic boy from San Antonio, Texas, was tragically shot and killed on December 6, 2020, while walking his dog, Oliver. The incident occurred in the 1700 block of Pleasanton Road near East Gerald Avenue. Angel sustained three gunshot wounds to the torso and was found unresponsive by responding police. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The San Antonio Police Department initially had no suspects and was
looking for a light-colored sedan believed to be involved in the drive-by shooting. However, in May 2023, Elijah Ramos, a 21-year-old man, was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with Angel's death. According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Angel had agreed to meet with a group near Harlandale High School for a drug deal. During the exchange, Ramos allegedly shot Angel with a handgun. Another witness in the vehicle also identified Ramos as the shooter.
Angel was a student at Tejeda Academy and was known for his involvement in student council, choir, theater arts, and his passion for learning to play the guitar. His mother, Ginger Brady, recounted the harrowing moment she found her son lying face-down in a pile of blood and desperately tried to comfort him as she called 911. The community has since set up memorials in his honor, and his family has received an outpouring of support.
The investigation into Angel's death has been ongoing, and the arrest of Ramos has brought some measure of justice to the grieving family. However, the loss of such a young, promising life continues to be felt deeply by those who knew him.
