Brittany Dawn Scruggs, a 29-year-old woman from Alvord, TX, tragically died on February 25, 2021. The incident was investigated by the Wise County Sheriff’s Office as a murder/suicide. According to reports, Brittany's boyfriend, Corey Cameron Brooks, 28, called his stepfather early that morning and confessed to shooting Brittany. However, a second report came in claiming that Brittany was fine.
When officers arrived at the scene, Brooks was allegedly barricaded inside an RV and refused to come out.

The sheriff’s office responded to the call shortly after 6 a.m. and found Brooks in a standoff situation. The tragic incident led to a thorough investigation, but no additional suspects were identified, and no further arrests were made.
The case did not result in any litigations or ongoing investigations, as it was concluded to be a murder/suicide. The Wise County Sheriff’s Office handled the case, and no further legal actions were taken against anyone else.
Brittany Dawn Scruggs was remembered fondly by her family and friends, and a graveside service was held in her honor at the Sunset Cemetery in Sunset, TX.
