Cindy Jayroe, a 56-year-old woman of Caucasian ethnicity, was fatally shot on March 7, 2021, in Amarillo, Texas. She was the beloved owner of Rumors Bar, a place where she was affectionately known as "Mom" by many in the community. On that fateful morning, Cindy was shot in the parking lot of her bar by Trecoby Leon Campbell, a 25-year-old man. She was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Campbell was arrested and charged with murder shortly after the
incident. Surveillance footage from inside the bar showed Campbell with a gun, and he was seen leaving the bar and opening fire in the parking lot. He fired multiple rounds, hitting the building, cars, and Cindy herself. Despite Campbell's claim that there was another shooter, evidence found at the scene indicated that only one gun was fired.
The case went to trial, and in August 2024, Campbell was found guilty of murder. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his actions. The District Attorney's Office expressed gratitude to Cindy's family for their patience and participation in the process, and for sharing their memories of Cindy. Cindy's son, Josh Jayroe, spoke about the impact his mother had on the community and how they would honor her memory.
