Arial Renea Charles, a 15-year-old African American girl from Mesquite, Texas, tragically passed away on April 24, 2021. Arial, affectionately known as "Arial Pooh" by her family and "Ari" by her friends, was a vibrant student at Lancaster High School who enjoyed science and running track. She had aspirations of graduating high school and pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice at Louisiana State University.
Arial's life was cut short in a tragic incident at an apartment complex on
Driftwood Drive in Mesquite. She was with two female teen relatives when three teenage boys, known to her, were invited over. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation, but it is known that Arial was shot just before 10:30 p.m. Despite immediate first aid and life-saving efforts by officers and paramedics, Arial was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In the aftermath of her death, Mesquite police charged three teenage boys with murder. Two 15-year-old boys and a 14-year-old were identified as suspects. All three were known to Arial and fled the scene before officers arrived. The investigation continues to determine the exact sequence of events and who pulled the trigger, but all three juveniles are charged with murder.
Arial's family and friends remember her for her happy, funny, and caring nature. She loved shopping, listening to R&B and Hip-Hop music, dancing, and singing. Her bright spirit and aspirations will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her.
