Ronald Renee Doze, a 39-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on May 2, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. The incident occurred at the Vista Del Rey Apartments located at 5622 Evers Road. According to reports, Ronald was found bleeding on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to his upper leg. He was immediately rushed to University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that day.
The police were informed by Ronald himself that his younger brother, Darren Paul Doze, was responsible for the shooting.
The altercation that led to Ronald's death was reportedly over a woman. Darren, aged 36, was accused of shooting his older brother after Ronald allegedly made unwanted advances towards the woman Darren had brought to the apartment. The woman, who was also a witness, stated that she was awakened by Ronald shouting at her to call the police, followed by the sound of a gunshot. Darren fled the scene with the woman, but not before apologizing for the shooting.
Darren Paul Doze was arrested on May 7, 2021, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals. He was charged with murder and held without bond. The case was prosecuted by the Family Violence Division in the 187th District Court. Darren's bond was later revoked after he was accused of assaulting a pregnant woman, which violated his bond conditions. The indictment against Darren alleged that he intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Ronald by shooting him with a firearm. Murder, being a first-degree felony, carries a potential punishment of 5 to 99 years or life in prison, along with a possible fine of up to $10,000.
The tragic incident has left a lasting impact on the family and community, as they continue to grapple with the loss of Ronald Renee Doze and the legal proceedings surrounding his death.
