On May 10, 2021, James Melgar, an 18-year-old male from Martindale, Texas, was tragically killed in a shooting incident. The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at approximately 8:52 p.m. reporting gunfire in the area of Northwest River Road and Scull Road near Martindale. When sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they found James Melgar and another teenager, Adian Zulaica, 17, with gunshot wounds lying next to a vehicle.
