Kerry Flanagan, a 49-year-old man from Blue Island, was fatally shot on the evening of April 14, 2026, while driving through Chicago’s Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side. The shooting unfolded shortly before 8:00 p.m. in the 8800 block of South Paxton Avenue.
According to Chicago police, Flanagan was behind the wheel of his vehicle at approximately 7:49 p.m. when someone opened fire and struck him twice in the head.
Despite being gravely wounded, Flanagan apparently attempted to get away from the scene. His vehicle subsequently crashed, bringing the violent encounter to an end only a short distance from where the gunfire occurred.
Emergency personnel transported Flanagan to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. His injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The circumstances surrounding why Flanagan was targeted have not been publicly established, and initial reports did not indicate whether the gunfire came from another vehicle, someone standing outside, or an individual who had approached his vehicle.
