On the evening of May 29, 2021, in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood, Mike Alicea stood on the sidewalk in the 3700 block of West McLean Avenue when a vehicle pulled up and a gunman stepped out. Shots followed in the warm dusk; Alicea was struck in the arm and leg, and the street quickly filled with flashing lights and yellow tape as first responders converged.
