Antwan Davis, a 27-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on July 16, 2021, in a drive-by shooting in the West Pullman neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. in the 12000 block of South Union Avenue. Davis was on the street when a vehicle approached, and someone inside the vehicle opened fire, striking him multiple times. He was transported to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.
The Cook County medical examiner's office later confirmed his identity and ruled his death a homicide. This incident was part of a particularly violent weekend in Chicago, where Davis was one of 60 people shot.
Following the shooting, an investigation was launched by Area Two detectives. On October 28, 2021, Christopher McDonald, a 44-year-old male, was arrested and charged with the murder of Antwan Davis. McDonald was apprehended just two blocks south of the shooting site. In addition to the murder charge, he faced charges of unlawful use of a weapon and drug possession. McDonald was expected to appear in court shortly after his arrest. The West Pullman neighborhood, where the shooting took place, had been experiencing a significant increase in violence, with murders in the area rising by 57% compared to the previous year and 400% compared to 2019.
