Cornelius Ramon Moore, a 31-year-old man from Pflugerville, Texas, tragically lost his life on May 31, 2021. The incident occurred following a heated altercation over his girlfriend, who was previously in a relationship with the suspect, Erick Jhames Lovelace. The dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Lovelace allegedly shot Moore in the chest.
Moore was found face-up in a driveway with a gunshot wound to his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lovelace, who was 26 years old at the time, was later charged with first-degree murder. According to the arrest affidavit, Lovelace had sent threatening text messages to Moore's girlfriend, including one that said, "Hope he enjoy his last night alive," prior to the shooting. Lovelace initially denied being at the scene but eventually admitted to being there to talk to Moore. He claimed that he shot Moore in self-defense, although he never saw Moore with a gun.
Following the incident, Lovelace and another man were taken into custody by the authorities. Lovelace's car was found parked next to the victim's girlfriend's home, and a 9mm handgun was discovered at Lovelace's residence. The investigation revealed that Lovelace had been in a relationship with Moore's girlfriend for five years before their breakup in 2020.
In April 2023, Lovelace was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 20 years in state prison. The court found that the altercation, which began as a verbal argument, turned deadly when Lovelace pulled out a firearm and shot Moore.
The tragic death of Cornelius Ramon Moore highlights the devastating consequences of unresolved conflicts and the importance of addressing disputes peacefully. The case also underscores the legal system's role in holding individuals accountable for their actions and providing justice for victims and their families.
