Jeff Johnson, a 58-year-old man from League City, Texas, was tragically shot and killed on June 10, 2021. Johnson, who was the owner of Texas Coast Yachts, was returning home with his wife from the Capital Grille restaurant in Houston when they were followed by a white Mercedes SUV. Upon arriving at their gated community, the couple was ambushed by three suspects in their garage. Johnson was shot multiple times during the struggle and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The investigation led by League City police quickly identified Devan Kristopher Jordon, a 21-year-old man, as a primary suspect. Jordon was charged with capital murder in connection with Johnson's death. Evidence collected at the scene, including DNA and surveillance footage, linked Jordon to the crime. The white Mercedes SUV used in the robbery was also traced back to Jordon, who had rented it for several weeks. Jordon's cell phone records placed him in the area at the time of the murder.
In addition to Johnson's case, Jordon was also linked to other violent robberies and shootings in the Houston area, including the capital murder of Joshua Sandoval. The investigation revealed that Jordon and his accomplices targeted victims who were wearing expensive jewelry or watches. The suspects would follow their victims from upscale restaurants to their homes, where they would rob and sometimes shoot them.
Jordon was arrested and charged with capital murder in both cases. The evidence against him was substantial, including DNA found at the crime scenes, surveillance footage, and cell phone records. In November 2024, Jordon was found guilty of murder in Johnson's killing and received an automatic life sentence without the possibility of parole.
The tragic death of Jeff Johnson highlighted the dangers of violent robberies targeting affluent areas and the importance of community vigilance. Johnson was remembered fondly by those who knew him as a family-oriented individual who lived for his grandchildren and was a mentor to many in his industry.
